Rewatched Season One of The Umbrella Academy and something struck me about the scene in episode five where Five tells Luther the truth about the apocalypse.
The conversation goes like this:
Luther: We could've banded together and helped you try to stop this thing.
Five: For the record, you already tried.
Luther: What do you mean?
Five: I found all of you. Your bodies.
Luther: We die?
Five: Horribly. You were together. Trying to stop whoever it was who ends the world.

Tumblr media
It hit me that when Five talks about finding his family dead, probably the first time he has ever said this outloud, he sounds almost envious that his siblings were together at the end. Yeah, they died, but they died together.
We know that Five was on his own from the beginning of the apocalypse, but I think that being confronted with the bodies of his siblings was, along with being heartbreaking and traumatising, a turning point in Five's time in the apocalypse. Before this, they were 'safe' in the past and kept alive in his memory. After this, he couldn't escape seeing them dead and buried under the rubble. The only people he ever had in his life, the ones who had been there for him and the only ones who could even begin to understand him and their shared trauma, weren't just somewhere else but completely gone.

The rewriting of the entire series that was witnessed in season 4 is really astounding to me. Cause why are they trying to gaslight us into believeubv that Allison and Klaus have always had a parasitic codependent relationship. Like please correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t even think they had that much screen time together before season 4. There were those moments in season 2 when they found each other but even then nothing to imply they had a codependant relationship where Allison was constantly dragging Klaus out of his messes. Hell if anyone did that it was ghost Ben. This is ghost Ben erasure. They where the ones with the parasitic codependency. Ben couldn’t be seen by anyone else so he needed Klaus and Klaus needed Ben not to completely go of the deep.
Ben is the one that’s there when Klaus is forced into sobriety and later when he is mourning Dave. Like a whole plot point in season 1 is how Klaus was kidnapped for like a day and nobody noticed. Another thing brought in season 1 is that as a child Allison was generally self centered and was really wrapped in her and Luther’s relationship. Why are they trying to gaslight us that she’s been taking care of him since childhood like those weren’t plot points the show itself set up.
I really liked their dynamic at the beginning of season 4 I thought it was a nice return to the real top shop they had in season 2 but like to try and force drama with their fight like it was a long time coming like it wouldn’t matter if this was just a new aspect of their relationship for both of them just really frustrated me. Especially for an arc that has no real pay off and really just works to show that Allison was right Klaus can’t be sober with out her. Which what?
What was the reasoning Steve?

Maybe the way to have saved the world was to stay in the 1960s at the end of season 2. After the last battle, the Hargreeves all slip away and live quiet lives. Yes, they’re wanted criminals… but it’s also prior to a lot of technology that would make them easy to track. They could skip town, change their names, lay low.
What real reason is there to go back to 2019? Five believes that if they go back, the original apocalypse will not happen, but there’s no basis for that other than the Handler’s word, and the Handler is untrustworthy. The Commission wants them to go back, since they don’t belong in the 1960s, but they just defeated the Commission in battle. They’ve already mucked up the timeline, anyway - they met Hargreeves before any of them were born and told him things he wouldn’t have known, otherwise. They’ve also caused several national incidents. Going back to 2019 will NOT bring them back to the 2019 they knew. Five, of all people, should know that (and it always bothered me that he didn’t, and that everyone was shocked to find a new reality in season 3). They’ve changed history. It’s too late.
So, why not exist in this timeline? I think it would be hard for Allison, who would have to give up on the possibility of ever seeing Claire again. But this time, she would have Ray with her. This time, she would be able to mourn safely, and wouldn’t spiral.
Luther would find a new job, move on from his unhealthy fixation with Allison, come to care for her in a normal brotherly way and love Ray as his brother in law. Maybe he and Diego would live together as chaotic roommates.
Diego would get twitchy trying not to do things that draw attention to himself. Maybe he’d be a vigilante again. Maybe he’d be a small town cop. But when Lila comes back (and she will come back, there’s no reason she couldn’t try her trick with Stan in the 1960s), they work things out and build a life together.
Klaus would struggle for a while, absolutely. No Ben. No Dave. Freshly relapsed. But he would come out of it, too. Maybe Diego would help him, like he does in the first season. Or Allison would, like she does in the fourth. But he won’t be alone again. Perhaps Dave survives the war - don’t we see him join a different military branch at the end of the season? Perhaps Klaus changes the timeline just enough that he lives. Perhaps they meet again, by chance. Perhaps they hit it off.
Or perhaps not. Maybe that’s too much of a paradox (if Dave joins a different branch and never meets Klaus and lives, then how can Klaus have met him and lost him and gone back to warn him?). That wouldn’t stop Klaus from meeting another nice young man and living together as “roommates.” He still remembers his relationship with Dave. That’s real, that matters, he mourns it. But he moves on and he’s happy.
Five retires. Sure, he’s twitchy for awhile. Still waiting for the other shoe to drop. But finally he relaxes, puts on the retiree hat he does in season 3. Goes fishing and road tripping. Jumps in to see his family whenever he wants. He and Lila hate each other, but they agree not to kill each other for Diego’s sake. Hate eventually morphs into begrudging respect.
Ben is gone. It’s tragic. But he saves Vanya, and he crosses over. He’s at peace.
Vanya, Sissy, and Harlan would run away together. Vanya would become Viktor, making them all the more difficult to track. They would realize Harlan has powers, but it wouldn’t ruin his life with Viktor there to help him manage. He’d also help him cope with the guilt of having caused the death of his abusive father - who knows more about destruction and guilt than Viktor Hargreeves? Maybe Viktor would even remove the powers, and let Harlan be a normal little boy who grows up to be an ordinary man.
Now for the fun part. Since Harlan isn’t out of control in this reality, he’s not going to accidentally kill the mothers. So, all seven Umbrellas will still be born. Now what? Five is adamant that they don’t meet each other, but when have the others ever listened to Five?
The real question… will Reginald Hargreeves adopt the Umbrellas, or will he adopt the Sparrows? If he adopts the Sparrows, there’s the difficulty of watching another superhero team (plus Ben! A Ben who looks just like their brother!) go through their traumatic childhood. Plus wondering how their other childhood selves are doing out there. But if Reginald adopts the Umbrellas… oh boy. Now the clock is ticking on another apocalypse.
Imagine the Umbrellas, old now, trying to stop their younger selves from causing an apocalypse. When do they intervene? Do they try to stop Five from leaving? Save Ben? Tell little Vanya that she has powers? Threaten Reginald into being a better father? Or is it Leonard they try to stop? Or each other - does Viktor talk down Vanya, does Luther talk down Luther, etc.? Is this now another potential paradox - for if they prevent the apocalypse, then these versions of themselves won’t jump back in time, so how are they now here and elderly and preventing the apocalypse?
Anyway. This would be fascinating to me. And I’d like it more than whatever season 4 was.

No, but the way they revealed Klaus's trauma was so gut-wrenching
They sat him up as the comedy relief character, the guy that makes his kidnappers want to give him back voluntarily.
And then they drop the bomb of miscellaneous snippets, of people reaching out to us but are just out of reach, all like a dream. And screaming.
Screaming from the ghosts. And then from a small boy.
And it wasn't just one flashback sequence, it was two.
When he got out of it, Ben, who earlier mourned to be alive while blaming Klaus for not living his, is sympathetic and says "You went there again, didn't you?"
And Klaus doesn't say a witty remark or a joke.
He has his eyes closed, to the ground, shaking his head and muttering "No, no, no, no".

If Umbrella Academy wanted to do the 'erased from existence to restore the fractured timeline' thing then I think the best way to do it would have been to have Five make that sacrifice and only Five.
A. It makes more sense to say that having someone traveling through time fractured the timeline than to have the Marigold do that. How does a decision Reginald makes in the timeline qualify as something that was never supposed to be in the timeline? But saying that someone bouncing around through time messed time up... that tracks. And it would seem to sync with what we're seeing with the subway and the Five Diner.
B. It fits with Five's arc in a way that it doesn't fit with all of the other siblings arcs. He's the one with the hubris to think he can/should tackle anything, fix anything. So the growth from the man who created the Comission in order to control everything as a solution, to the man who says 'actually I need to step back and let things go on without me' is a good arc. And it allows him to really show in a big act how much he loves his siblings.
And if you keep the cheating/love triangle story line (you shouldn't. It should go.) It can be a moment of redemption for Five as he steps back and sacrifices himself to give Diego and Lila their life back.
C. Five is 70 by the end of season 4. If he sacrifices himself it's still sad but he has lived a long life by then. There's also a sense of Five not fitting in the world right anymore because of living in the apocalypse and then the comission and now being trapped in a younger body, so there's something compelling there.
D. It leaves an opening for a recognizable reset point. If we just need a world without Five the ending could drop our remaining characters back in something very like the season 1 timeline but with changes to reflect that the disasters of season 1 never happened.
E. It leaves someone behind to make us feel it more. Its both happier and sadder to leave the other siblings alive. Because we can be invested in them getting a happy ending, and there's someone left to mourn the sacrifice (I would write it as Five is erased but the siblings retain their memories of him, but i think you could also do a scenario where they don't remember except for a vague sense of having lost someone.)
F. It means that even if the timeline's been reset that the things we saw in previous seasons did MEAN something. Especially if the reset maintains key features that have developed over the seasons (e.g. Diego and Lila being together and having their kids; Klaus being sober still; Sloane and Luther) and evidence that the character development of previous seasons carries over. (This is also why i think the siblings should retain their memories)
G. Thematically, instead of saying "you are the problem, the world is better off without you" it leans more toward "time travel is the problem because it represents trying to change the past. You can't undo what happened but you can move forward and heal" (it doesn't say that perfectly because well... we kinda did undo a lot of stuff BUT its not undoing the family trauma that is the thematic basis of the show)
So. Have Five go to the diner and see that its unsolvable. But have him conclude that time travel is the problem. He goes back and they have Viktor pull the marigold and durango from Ben and Jennifer and put both into Five triggering the reset. (In the process there's some nice goodbyes with the family and give Five a line about how since he first got lost in time his one goal has been to save his family and now he gets to do that. Tears. Forgiveness if that needs to happen.) Ben gets to be there saved with the family, and sees the lengths they went to to save him and accepts being a part of this family for the first time.
We see the family transported to the new timeline, put back into a restored Umbrella Academy. Pogo walks in and says something to them that gives us a feel for the timeline. We then see a little montage of what their lives are like (Diego and Lila's family is preserved, Luther is able to go find Sloane, Ben tracks down the rest of the Sparrows who are scattered around the world. They can also throw in some of the side characters like Hazel and Agnes or Harlan, or Patch) and then it ends with a shot of a huge family Christmas dinner with everyone together and some nod to Five like an empty chair, or some memorial they have set up. And we end there.

SPOILERS FOR UMBRELLA ACADEMY SEASON 4!!!
Everyone in season 4 was various levels of out of character.
Luther wasn't as bad. He has his previous aspect of trying to bring his family together. He cares for them and wants them to be together. But he didn't have it throughout the season. Also, considering his attitude towards Reginald in season 3, there is no way he would be that fine with being in the group to go see him. Overall, it would have made more sense if he was with Viktor in the let's go find and help Ben campaign instead of being a background character in relationship drama.
Diego would not have been an absent father. From his relationship with Stan to his anxiety of becoming his father, he would have been extremely involved. Most of the awkwardness with Stan was because Stan showed up at the age of 12 out of nowhere. Considering how he clearly had time to prepare for his children, he would have been more ready. Also, why did those twins never get named? It doesn't make sense for him to have his attitude about it with how old his kids are, and after losing Stan after just starting to get close and look after him. Also considering how forward Diego is, he should have confided in more of his siblings about his relationship issues that Five and Luther in the beginning. Which would have also induced more bonding. Overall he needed more scenes with his kids in general.
Allison would have clung harder to Claire. A big part of her character is her daughter. She spent the whole show trying to get back to her. She full ass re writes a timeline and makes a deal with her abusive father to get back to her. There is no way she would not be extremely overprotective. They also tried to paint the picture of her and Klaus always having that relationship when they did not. Sure, they were closer in season 2, but they were not always shown to have that specific Allison looking after Klaus thing. She should have also had more emotion shown about her actions back in season 3. Whether it be regret or apathy, something should have been shown. Yes, she has that minor talk with Viktor, but nothing else? Really?
Speaking of Klaus, where was his eccentric personality? Even when previously sober (majority of season 2), he still held onto his personality. If they were going to go the route they did with his characterization, they should have had a moment where he reminisced on the people he lost or something. He needed more to put him from point A to point B. Additionally, his separate side plot was ultimately useless. A thing about Klaus is that whatever odd side plot he has always ends up ultimately tying into the plot in a big way. He accidentally is productive. He finds the kugelblitz, he is the first sibling to meet Ray, he is half of the possession plotline which eventually leads to stopping the apocalypse, he's accidentally the reason the journal gets into Harold's hands, but how was his side stuff tied into the plot this season? Also, his relationship with Ben was completely un mentioned. With how Klaus is trying so hard to bond with him in season 3 while mourning his brother, there is no way he just has like no scenes with him in season 4. He wasn't there to remember Ben's death and there wasn't even a conversation about it.
Dear fuck, Five. Why did they give him a romantic interest in the first place? Not only does his character not need one or even close to needing one, his age makes any sort of romantic relationship just flat out weird. Between him being 18 or 19 physically, he's also mentally in his sixties. After the weird mid-season time skip, sure, he's physically in his mid-20s, but he's mentally 70. A relationship with anyone is weird. Let alone with Lila. It's also odd because Lila is arguably one of his only friends. They were a good duo because they were efficient and entertaining. Most of their screen time being shared is because of the commission, and they built a complicated friendship off of it. Key word friendship. Five has given so much time and time again for his family. He loves them and cares for them, even if he doesn't outright show it. He hides it beneath snark, but it's always been visible. He would not have a relationship with his brothers wife, especially knowing she did have a family back home. If anything, they would have become extremely co-dependent on each other, but not romantic. Also, Five would not be dumb enough to go travel back to go try and mess with the original Jennifer incident. He should have put up more of a protest against it, or have him agree to try when things are more desperate.
Ben after being re-introduced in season 3 is shown to be bad at being an antagonist, a part of a quote unquote family more dysfunctional than the Umbrellas and that deep down, he does want a family. In season 4, he claims to not be part of the Umbrellas family over and over again, yet is still getting together with them. He claims his family is dead, despite the fact that he did not view them that way in season 3. Also despite the fact that they tried to explain it away with the Cleanse messing with his mind, it was extremely weird how obsessed he got with Jennifer. They should have had them already met and having a pre established something in season 4, other than just straight up meeting that week. He should have also mentioned any of the Sparrows at least once if he was so insistent that they were his family. He had the perfect opportunity to at least mention one or two of his siblings at various points, but he didn't. Or maybe have him mention trying to look for them at some point in the time skip before he went to jail, something. With his desperation for family, there is no way there wouldn't be something.
It was odd how Viktor was so set on little to no contact, and then wanted to see Ben's death to be part of the team. He states to Allison how they are not friends. He is trying to establish a lack of relationship due to everything that went down without having any sort of actions or anything to fully indicate it. He should have gone fully one way or the other with whatever feelings about his family or have shown to have the more complex feelings about it. Also, if they were going to have him trying to be the one to save Ben, they should have brought up his conversation with him or something from the end of season 2. Something in general.
Lila had complicated feelings about being pregnant back in season 3 and her worries about being a bad mother. They should have had her in more scenes with her kids. Also it felt odd for her to be a stay at home mother. With all the childcare help she could get from her family, they should have given her at least a little side job. It was even weirder how she was stated to hate bracelets after the importance of the bracelet between her and Diego. She also would have known how dangerous it would be to mess with the timeline and would not have suggested it as an option unless things were more desperate. She WAS with the commission, after all. Diego and Lila should have had more conversation about the break in their relationship, especially considering what follows. She stated that her relationship with Five was for survival, but then later it was extremely hinted that she loved him, which was weird. Did the writers also forget about he did in fact kill her parents? There was no mention of it whatsoever, nothing on her feelings about it.
Honorable mention: Ray. He would not have walked out on Allison. If anything to not have him be in this season, divorce, or maybe just have him die again, idk. He would not have walked out and it's extremely insulting to him to have that be what happened

tom & elliot's role swap video is interesting to me because . what if luther and viktor Did switch some places in s4?
this would likely include [this is an au idea]:
a down-on his-luck luther, shifting through various jobs
in hindsight i just want more depth back for him
in this au, sloane is fully dead via reginald incompletely programming the universe & allison pressing the button early. let's visualize all the flashback montages we should have gotten over their 6 years, and insert in one where he finds her grave.
(this would cut to ben finding this out in a phone call, scowling with a hint of mourning, before turning away to greet more of his crypto buddies)
it says something like "sacrificed her life saving people from the fire of the hotel obsidian [or something heroic]."
he has no picture of her
it's not a timeline where he's fucked up, like the unshaven floorcrying on the moon or s1's furry rave breakdown. he's numb. happy to go to family events, not as stoic as s1, but numb every once in a while
he still picks up ben from prison. hugs him too tight – ben complains once.
he actually squeezes more often in his hugs. death is too real. klaus gets it but still panics for closeness and germs as they meet at the party
viktor, on the other hand, is as neutral as he's always been. happy without his powers, able to take deep breaths dealing with annoying regulars at the bar without rattling all the bottles on his shelves
he's happy to be part of the family – it's not like he has sissy or harlan left. so he answers his calls, sends the niblings pictures of canada wildlife, and is happy to go to every meetup. he's missed only a couple, because distance.
viktor's still the one most pissed about his powers coming back, at least. "i could put us at risk and the end the world again."
it's luther who's even more visibly awkward when allison shows up to grace's 6th. everyone can assume it's because of oblivion, but we the audience can guess it could be about the rumor SA and their complex history
we can take it to the town with keepers and evil santa – viktor and allison could have a different scene, one that acknowledges where they are now
("we've killed each other's children, we've hurt each other, but you asked me to trust you and i did." "i guess i can't ask you to be in my corner then." "show me a good reason to; i know you can" *cue proper alli redemption arc*)
but alli/luther... there's more hurt there because really the show broke their closeness and put a transparent bandaid to pretend it's still there despite s3. they used to be besties with a childhood that turned them into exes and circumstances have changed that into worse
so it's luther who tells her that "we can't be anything else, right now.. i don't think we can even be friends. i'm sorry"
allison and that brilliant thing where emmy raver lampman acts out trying not to cry
take your pick of reasoning – the SA, or he blames her in part along with reg for not programming sloane into the timeline. either because she went with it, or because she pressed the button early
in my au we settle loose ends btw. they talk it out or help each other in battle, as long as they make truce at the end.
we keep the exact scene as from the roleswap video. we also keep the deleted conversation with diego later on.
if we have to actually integrate the cia in any way (bc in this world, five works at an actual deli and spies on the keepers at night) one of them finds various files on them, and sloane too. takes the picture of her to keep it.
i say one of them because a viktor-diego arc would be cool and luther travelling with reg, actually calling the shots better would be interesting.
viktor's the one who both gets an insight into diego's vigilante fighter style, and is also there to let him figure out that change is ok. "the civilian life isnt so bad, here's an anecdote from something i actually liked about being ordinary back in the original s1 timeline."
(have i also said this au is just lila and diego missing the action in their lives but without cheating. they both work 9-5s and are tiredly trying to keep up and this is settled later)
no matter what the picture ends up in luther's hands by the end
it's what luther clutches amidst a proper final battle and ending, hoping to find sloane in the next life

What do you think about Enzo? I find him Boring 😭
In short: I don't like him that much. None of that is MM's fault lol.
Long Answer: To me the writers never knew what to do with Enzo really which is why he has that long phase of disliking Stefan, Lily problems, Caroline/KC.20 and then being placed with Bonnie. He's different characters all wrapped up into one. Sometimes he's Damon other times he's Klaus. When Damon and Klaus are already very similar to their cores.
Ian vouched for Michael M. which is why he stayed longer than season 5. BE is more about what Enzo needs than Bonnie. They were together for years, yet Damon is so centered in their relationship because he screwed them both over. I probably would have supported them if the relationship if it was done because the writers cared for Bonnie romantically but that isn't how it is presented. Bonnie's "epic" romance is told all in one episode and then the rest is half of a season with the remaining episodes of her fawning over a ghost. Never mind the stockholm syndrome that forced them together anyway. Even in fan edits Enzo is given more reasons to like Bonnie than she is of him. They were never granted a "sex scene" but even that one moment has Bonnie doing the work. Kat Graham is 5ft2 you mean to tell me Michael couldn't carry her to a bed or something?
It's just annoying when other women were fawned over: Elena, Caroline, Cami, and Hayley were giving one or multiple interests those relationships were done with intent due to having some compassion towards those women. Those relationships center so much of those women. Bonnie gets a half-assed romance with a non-fleshed out character as a "here damn" ship.
You asked about Enzo, and this turned into anti Enzo/Bonenzo rant. Sorry, but BE is the only time his character had some consistency which was adding onto the many ways the series doesn't value Bonnie. Yes, it's nice that Bonnie got some happiness but in the end it just aided into her suffering. Enzo could be lined up with Bonnie's other romances and I swear outside of him lasting 3 seasons you wouldn't see much a difference: Luka M, Ben and Jeremy. All side characters or unimportant because the series doesn't see Bonnie as such.
Kat amazing acting in Enzo's death, and the fact that a future with Enzo was dangled over Bonnie's head like a toy is part of the reason people mourn them so much to me. The show wrapped and we never hear about Bonnie's life for the rest of the franchise.

God, Klaus must have had to start sobering up immediately after Ben's death in order to be able to summon him by his funeral.
He was using drugs at least as early as the day Five disappeared, plenty of time to become addicted, and in his mourning when he would most crave the relief that his substances could provide him he managed to avoid them long enough to have enough control over his powers to intentionally summon a specific spirit.

Eyes wide, Klaus couldn't believe what he was seeing. Sure, the universe had reset again, but Sparrow Ben had already fucked off to God knows where. Ben--his Ben--had passed on...in another timeline? He'd spent their time in Hotel Obsidian mourning the loss of his brother a second time. Not having anyone to annoy constantly had been surprisingly depressing.
"I think I might be," Klaus finally got out, throat tight with emotion. But when he threw his arms around his brother, Ben was solid, warm, alive. Powerless, as they all had become, but here to be nearly squeezed to death by Klaus. "How the hell did you find me?"

Rewatching TUA - Run Boy Run
Five jumped three times before he ended up stuck in the apocalypse, and I can't help but wonder...
What years were the two time jumps he appeared in before the apocalypse? How long did the jumps take between them...?
Tumblr media
It's crazy to think that it was only a few seconds for Five but in any of those jumps, his siblings were living their lives (without knowing that Five appeared for a few seconds)
Maybe they were hurting... maybe they had finally accepted that Five would never come back... or maybe they were mourning Ben... Or maybe everyone had already gone their separate ways... Klaus was living on the streets, Diego was at the police academy... Luther on the Moon... Allison was pregnant... or Viktor was writing his book?
Perhaps during the years after the apocalypse Five wondered what would have happened if he had at least stopped during those jumps...?

Some TUA Fic Recs!
These are some of my absolute favourite “Umbrella Academy” fanfics! All of these fics are finished, except for one. Please note that most of the tags I am including are not all of the tags on the fic, they are mostly the general ones and warning ones. Also, all of the word counts have been rounded. (all fics are on ao3)
“Against the Waves” by noodlerdoodler | Rated T | 3,200 Words | Main Relationship: Diego Hargreeves & Klaus Hargreeves | Important Tags: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Pre-Canon, Implied/Referenced Child Abuse, Fluff, Nightmares | Synopsis:
“Charming. Isn’t my company entertaining enough for you?” Dramatically, Klaus threw up a hand against his forehead and collapsed onto his bed as if he were wounded.
“Don’t be an ass,” His brother rolled his eyes but there was a fond expression on his face, “You know that some of us aren’t actually nocturnal?”
Klaus stuck his tongue out, “What are you doing up then?”
Instantly, his brother’s defences snapped back up and he scowled, “I t-t-t-tol-tol-told y-y-you th-“
Whatever his excuses were, Klaus couldn’t be bothered to hear them. As lowly as the others thought of him, he was actually pretty intuitive and it was obvious the real reason Diego was out of bed was because something was bothering him. He wasn’t one to just wander around after hours for no reason- that was more Klaus’s gig. Whatever it was had really gotten under his skin. Unfortunately, his brother was too emotionally constipated to say what was on his mind.
| Comments: Very sweet. |

“Business Man'' by Cate_Olivyn | Rated T | 6,800 Words | Main Relationship: Five Hargreeves & Klaus Hargreeves | Important Tags: Major Character Death, Angst, Grief/Mourning, Intoxication, Ghosts, Temporary Character Death | Synopsis:
“Terminate David and Klaus Katz.”
Five ignored the pang of guilt that accompanied the name, because it was only a stranger with his brother’s name. He ignored the ugly feeling in his chest when he saw his mark, and he looked so much like the man he left to rot in the apocalypse.
But he can’t ignore the pain in his brother’s eyes when he talks about a love lost, and a life in another time.
| Comments: Pain. |

“Firestarter” by Melivian | Rated T | 8,900 Words | Main Relationship: Ben Hargreeves & Klaus Hargreeves | Important Tags: Minor Violence, Drug Addiction, Past Character Death, Deteriorating Relationships | Synopsis:
"It's funny," Klaus said. "You start out with something so great. And you think it'll stay great forever, so you'll do anything to hang onto it, you know? But then one day you realize it's turned into something else when you weren't looking. And you don't know whose fault it is, or how to make it right again. All you know is that you're holding the same pieces, but suddenly they don't fit together anymore."
Ben said nothing.
"What happened to us, Ben?"

Or
In the show, after Klaus reveals the little information he knew to Hazel and Cha-Cha, we have a time jump and in the next scene, he's locked in a small closet in the motel room.

“Someday (c’est la vie, c’est la vie)” by JaggedEmeraldsOfGold | Rated G | 5,200 Words | Main Relationship: Ben Hargreeves & Diego Hargreeves & Klaus Hargreeves | Important Tags: Pre-Canon, Fluff, No Incest | Synopsis:
“Because I don’t go memorizing locations of old board games, especially when they’re in a dumpster,” Ben says, and Klaus doesn’t deign that with a response, instead climbing the precariously balanced trash bag pile, one hand reaching for the top edge of the dumpster while the other clutches the thin cardboard box to his chest. He drops himself over the edge, and lets himself fall on his ass onto the cement, hoping there isn’t something he wouldn’t voluntarily sit in waiting for him. There isn’t, he finds, and he climbs to his feet as Ben appears next to him, all collected and unbothered and otherwise immaculate.
“Come come!” Klaus tells him, and starts down the alley, away from the dumpster, staggering a few steps until he regains his footing. “Diego will love this, we’ll have a bunch of fun, and he’ll thank me for the relaxing break from work.”
“He isn’t— he won’t,” Ben calls after him, but Klaus feels him follow him out of the alley and back to the McDonald’s anyways.
Or: 21 year old Klaus and Diego (and Ben) chilling in a car, and then a McDonald's.

---
Dave is looking at him, eyes soft and heavy lidded. “What did you say to that guy?” he asks, head resting on the wall, body turned towards Klaus.
“Ah,” Klaus laughs, dropping his hand to take a drink. “Just mouthed off. You know how I am.”
“That mouth will get you in trouble some day,” Dave says softly.
Klaus looks up, swallowing. “Some people like my mouth,” he says.
“I do.”

Note
i know you're more season one focused [ur so real] BUT if/in your own interpretation of s4 where klaus were to lose all his powers and be stranded in ordinary normyville cold turkey, how would/did he handle the life change? canon didn't really get into it beyond germaphobia cause they're cowards, but i'd love to hear your thoughts on if/how the change might've changed him
Tumblr media
Headcanon Questions | Always accepting!
OKAY so like, I’m gonna try to be organized in this response and respond to this in a sort of chronological order of what I think Klaus' timeline would be after arriving in a powerless timeline...
I think, for the most part, Klaus would be totally fine without his powers?? He wouldn't relapse back into his addiction like the show seems to suggest, that's for damn sure. And I mean, of course it would definitely be an adjustment— in the first few years, Klaus would definitely still rely on his siblings (he’d probably still wind up at Allison’s place, or maybe even with Five or Luther) just because, like, my dude has never had a job in his life?? he doesn’t know what the fuck to do now that he’s not running this constant, decades-long marathon???
Because like. The thing is: aside from maybe Luther and Ben, Klaus is the only sibling who couldn't turn his powers off at all. Klaus has spent over 30 years living with something that he couldn't avoid and couldn't dampen without hurting himself in the process and idk I think somewhere along the line he just got so used to hurting himself and numbing himself, so to take away that pain is liberating, but I also think there's a part of Klaus that would genuinely kind of mourn the life he could have had all these years if he'd never had the power to begin with :(
So all of that is to say: there’s definitely an adjustment period where he realizes that actually he doesn't know who the fuck he is outside of his addiction and his powers. Maybe he hops around from sibling to sibling, or maybe he stays with Allison and takes up knitting again, and writing, and maybe he starts to pick up Claire from school and help her with her school projects and he finds that actually, he kind of likes that kind of thing. And that doesn't mean he turns into a bubble-wrapped grandpa overnight— Klaus is still Klaus. He's still impulsive, he's still weird and curious and mischievous. But maybe instead of going out on a bender, he prefers to do karaoke night with Claire.
Like, the longer I think about the germaphobia thing, though, the more I realize that I actually don't prescribe to that characterization...at all. Because that entire concept hinges on two predications which are: 1. the idea that Klaus, without his powers, is afraid of death. And 2. that Klaus has something to live for.
And I don't think either one of those things would be true, at least at the beginning of s4. Even without the guarantee of immortality, Klaus is never truly afraid of death. In his mind, he never really planned on living past the age of 20. In fact, every time Klaus has gone into the void, he never wants to leave. The void is where Dave is, and his mom, and all the crap television his heart desires. He's died a thousand times by this point, what's one more?
Plus, if we're being honest...before his relationship with Claire and Allison really forms, there's not a whole lot that he would even be motivated to stick around for in the first place. like sure, his family would be bummed if he kicked the bucket but like, they don't need him?
So ANYWAY yeah I mean I think powerlessness would be a genuine lifesaver for Klaus, even if it has comes with some complications! On the one hand I think it would give him the opportunity to get clean and really grow into a version of himself that he's happy with (and YEAH maybe he does clip coupons, and maybe he's a little softer around the edges), but on the other hand, I think adjusting to powerlessness would also force him to realize that if he only has one life to live, he has to make his own meaning out of it.

The Stolen Child: Prologue - The Exikahle Annals
Tumblr media
Next -> 1
Index
Tumblr media
3rd of September of 1864, authored by Hortense Goldwater-Lievremont
THE KINSHIP IS IN MOURNING
A terrible shadow has clouded our Fair Nation. On the morrow of this very day, the third of September of the year one thousand eight hundred and sixty-four (7841 as per the Saz calendar), the Leader of the Historian Emblem, Abraham Arnold Day, was found dead. The Exikahle Annals wish to avow that his new life shall blossom bright.
The evening prior, Mr. Day had hosted his first ball of the season, a gathering which had been attended by the totality of his fellow Leaders as well as the remaining members of the Inner Circle (sans our Commander-in-Chief), their spouses, progeny and other persons from the higher ranks of the Archaic Army. However, this joyous occasion was corrupted by the presence of a third party, of whom Mr. Day became prey.
The murderer’s identity has not been disclosed—furthermore, it likely shan’t ever be disclosed—yet this author has been informed of the vile criminal’s modus operandi: firstly, the act of inflicting inebriation upon their victim; secondly, drawing their victim to a lonely games room under the guise of seduction; thirdly, piercing their victim’s rib cage til it had become red as wine; finally, laying to rest on their poor victim’s earthly remains.
The finding of Mr. Day’s cadaver was entrusted to Mr. Klaus Haukland, who our sources claim was the Emblem Leader’s closest friend. Nevertheless, a retinue of Emblem Leaders and Gatekeepers, even the Khioaxi, promptly arrived to the crime scene. Wonsook Cho (Leader of the Conductor Emblem, of whom this author has written about ostensibly on account of her apparition lover) conceded to describe the scene before her departure for Mirror Korea. Behold her words: “It was ludicrous; Abraham is gone? Who shall token Reason during our symposia? Roxia spare us, for it shan’t be me!”
The Leaders of the Symbiotic Haven, Ms. Akhtar (host) and Ms. Shiva (imlium) have expressed their sorrow over the tragic occurrence. They have decreed that they shan’t return to Persia until the Triumvirate of Xelua’ia have certified that due punishment has been executed. The Leader of the Doppelgänger Emblem refused this author a word, yet actions speak louder than words and his decision to expeditiously return to his native realm deafens the mightiest of thunderstorms.
Mr. Haukland appeared too devastated to afford us his input.
~
Abraham Arnold Day was born the first of August of one thousand eight hundred eighteen (7795 as per the Saz calendar) to Livitha & Harald Day (né Townsend) in Mirror London, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. He was Named Leader of the Historian Emblem in December of one thousand eight hundred forty (7817 as per the Saz calendar). He was a private man who seldom endeavoured to visit Aboveground. He never wed, though this author has surmised that he was once betrothed to one Isaac ben Zohara, a friend of Mr. Haukland’s. It is unknown whether Mr. Zohara shall be in attendance at Mr. Day’s funeral. Learning of the perishing of the man to whom you once dreamt of being a husband ought to drive one to madness, indeed.

IT/TUA Crossover
Okay I've been bouncing this idea around in my head for a while and I want to share my thoughts. I also kinda want to write this into a oneshot but we will see. Also this is only a crossover in the sense that the Losers are in the place of the TUA fam. So like what would happen if the Losers were the ones born with the marigold and adopted by Reginal Hargreeves. I mean....both TUA and IT have seven main characters so how could I not try to merge the two?
Anyways moving on to who get's what marigold (powers) and I have some maybe controversial opinions
I'm not basing this on the TUA character's personalities, just their powers btw
AAAA also for those not familiar with TUA, the numbers don't really matter, like just because someone is "Number 1" doesn't necessarily make them the leader
Number 1 with the power of strength should be Mike and my reasoning for this is because Mike has a strong heart and he would love his adopted siblings (the Losers) and would use his strength to protect them- also Mike staying at the academy the longest, hoping his family would come back
Number 2 who's power is uhhhh how do you word that? Super Aim? Basically he never misses AND he can stop something in motion in it's tracks, like bullets fired from a gun- Anywho I think this should be Ben. I feel bad bc this is my least favorite power (but I LOVE Deigo) but I like the idea of Ben being a knife guy, it's outta pocket and no one would expect it
Number 3- Mind control- Miss little "I heard a rumor" is definitely Bev. I don't have to say much about this, but Bev using her rumor power to get ahead and be one of the most successful people in Hollywood- not that she needs much help. But also like how Luther and Allison have that weird relationship, her and Ben would have that too
Number 4, the power to commune with the dead and *Spoilers for TUA season 3* the power to come back to life after dying. This is where I get a little controversial but hear me out...I feel like this should be Bill. Unlike his TUA counterpart Klaus, Bill would channel his fear of ghosts into writing and he becomes a bestselling authors selling stories that the ghosts tell him. In an interview he gets asked how he comes up with these ideas and he just shrugs "They just come to me" and meanwhile the ghost who told him the story is yelling at him. I do think that LIKE Klaus he would distance himself from his family
Number 5 who can teleport and time travel is obviously Stan. Stan is literally an 85 year old man in a 13 year olds body. Stan is already a little unhinged but getting lost in time, seeing THREE apocalypses and constantly trying to save his hairbrained family. Five in TUA IS Stan. An old soul who loves his family but also wants to murder them because they somehow keep causing the world to end. Also Stan would be so mad at himself that he hasn't mastered time travel since teleporting came so naturally to him
Number 6, the ability to summon tentacles out of his chest is Richie. Which also means Richie is dead. RIP. He's dead for everyone else but Bill can NOT get rid of him. Remember Bill talks to the dead? Richie would be following him around and aggravating Bill every chance he gets. Bill acts annoyed but he is happy he gets to talk to his technically dead brother while the rest of his adopted siblings had to mourn him. Just imagine all of the BICHIE friendship moments I could write if I wrote this ship. Richie would make so many dead jokes
Number 7, the power to turn sound waves into energy is Eddie. Poor Eddie who was constantly told he didn't have any powers bc Reggie was terrified of them. Jokes on Reggie. Eddie ended the world. Twice. And he's the strongest one of the bunch. I feel like that would be a strong character moment for him
I want write parts of this AU, I love it. Who knows if I'll ever find the time. Also yes ik there's spelling/grammar errors. I am tired
